A 47 year old woman, Rebecca Galawulu, has been allegedly raped and strangulated to death in Galawulu Town, Yellequelleh District, Bong County.
The incident occurred on Thursday and was made known last weekend. The late Rebecca, according to reports, was confronted by the 25 year-old suspect only known as Moses on a nearby farm, raped and subsequently strangulated to death in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Suspect Moses- a Visitor to the town, has already been arrested by the Liberian National Police, and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation. Bong County Inspector William Kollie, a relative of the deceased, has described the situation as sad.
Mr. Kollie told our Bong County correspondent that the murder of Rebecca has left the family wondering and seriously confused. The murder of women in the county is on the rise.
In February of this year, the body of an eleven year old girl- Rachel Darling Garpue of the Franjoe Community in Gbarnga, was found days later after she got missing with reports of being raped and killed by unknown individuals yet to be identified.
The latest against a woman was late June when Madusu Sayon was allegedly stabbed to death by her fiancé – Lamini Kromah, in the Frog Island Community in Central Gbarnga.
The alleged murderer is still at large, as authorities continue their search for him, with report that he has crossed to neighboring Guinea.
Bong County residents have begun admonishing justice actors in the county to ensure that the perpetrators of murder are brought to justice to put a check to the continuous wave of violence against women in the county.
Some expressed the belief that if deterrent measures are not put in place to stop violence against women, it would create an ill-looking image for Bong County and its citizens. By Papa Morris Morris from Bong County – Edited George Barpeen
