Women of Progress undertakes market project

A local group called Women of Progress has launched a L$60,000 market project in the Bassa Town Community in Gardnersville Township.Speaking to reporters after the official launch of the project Wednesday, 25 April, the group’s Secretary-General Mrs. Theresa Parker Nimely said the project is made possible through the meaningful contributions of the membership.

According to her, since the creation of the community for over 30 years, inhabitants have had difficult to access commodities, compelling them to send their children either to the general market at Gardnersville Supermarket or the Dry Rice Market which are far from them.

According to Mrs. Nimely, when completed, the market will house over 200 marketers and will ease the hardship residents go through to get basic foodstuff and other items for the survival of their family.

For his part, Mr. Albert Kesselly Kollie, a prominent resident of the community praised the women for the self help project. He describes the project as a surprise to the inhabitants of Bassa Town Community.

Mr. Kollie assures that he will mobilize the men in the community to make their contribution to the project because it will benefit both the women and the men.
Mr. Kollie then asked all those residing within the community to see the market project as a significant achievement for the community which will go a long way in alleviating most of the problems under – age children in the area experience while crossing the road to buy foodstuff.

According to the contractor of the project, Mr. Jenkins Wesseh, the infrastructure when completed will include two large offices and warehouses to protect marketers’ goods after their day to day activities.
