Women urged to seek elected posts

The Women of Shoes Factory Community in Montserrado County have been encouraged to seek various elected positions in a community election due 1 July 2018. There are about 50,000 inhabitants in the community, with women accounting for 49%.

The community’s first democratic election was held in 2005 under the watchful eye of Montserrado County former District Representative Dave Kumeh. Briefing reporters Wednesday, 27 June about ongoing works leading to the 1 July election, Chief Registrar Mrs. Mary Vokpor said her committee is currently registering potential voters.

She discloses that her committee is doing everything possible to ensure that non residents of the community are not registered to make the electoral processes transparent.

According to her, her committee is encouraging potential women residing in the community to contest for various positions including Chairman, Youth Representative, Secretary General, Financial Secretary, Treasure and Chaplain, among others.

She emphasized that women’s participation in the community election will determine the fate of women candidates intending to contest in the pending Montserrado County senatorial by-election at the national level. She calls on all residents of the area to contribute to the process to ensure that the election committee carries on its mandate without any problem.
