Workers’ union prexy reinstated at China Union

The President of the Workers Union at China Union in Bong Mines, Mr. Kesselly Sumo, who was recently indefinitely suspended, has been reinstated. Mr. Sumo’s reinstatement comes as a result of the interventions of the Labor Union of Liberia and Bong County Labor commissioner E. Suah David.

It can be recalled that Mr. Kesselly Sumo was indefinitely suspended for escorting Bong County’s Labor commissioner, who was on a tour of the company’s facilities.

The interventions by the two institutions will now neutralize threats by workers of China Union not to return to work pending the return of their leader. The workers had sounded very resolute on the reinstatement of their head, adding that the company continues to “take them for joke.”

Meanwhile, the June 1 deadline for payment for services at the Bong Mines Hospital- currently faced with serious drugs shortage, is yet to take effect.

Conditions at the hospital have been of serious concern due to what local analysts called the forceful removal of residents from the company’s facilities, low wages, as well as uncomfortable working conditions, among others.
