Young people urged to pursue studies in Agriculture

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Lenn Eugene Nagbe, is encouraging Liberian youth to take interest in the agricultural sector because there are vast opportunities for jobs and self-employment.

He said agriculture is the main pillar that strongly supports the economy of any country. Minister Nagbe told a live radio talk show “Truth Breakfast” Wednesday that the Government of Liberia has procured equipment for the Monrovia Vocational Training Center or MVTC in Gardnersville, Somalia Drive, adding that they will arrive shortly in the country.

He said delay in the arrival of the equipment is reason why the MVTC remains closed after construction of a new campus by the Chinese, but assured that classes at the center will resume in August.

He added that the Government of Liberia is doing everything possible to make the Booker Washington Institute or BWI in Kakata, Margibi County one of the best technical schools in Liberia.

Minister Nagbe noted that the problem with most youth being without job is because they lack technical and vocational skills needed by concession companies.

He urge young people to pursue agricultural and vocational education where there are high prospects for employment rather than seeking office and white collar jobs which are not readily available.

The Youth and Sports Minister disclosed that government has plan to establish regional vocational institutions across the country to have more young people acquired technical and vocational skills, adding that first regional institution has been opened in Bomi County with about 100 youth currently enrolled.
