Youth Group Organizes Spelling Bee Contest
A youth group has embarked on an exercise to buttress the Liberian Government’s effort to provide quality education by organizing an academic contest among school children. The group has organized a Spelling Bee contest amongst primary and junior high schools, which is expected to take off today, Friday in Monrovia.
A total of 12 participants are gearing up for the contest, six each from the primary and junior high divisions. They were drawn from six blocks within Montserrado County District #8. Prizes for the competition include scholarships, textbooks, and book bags, amongst others. The contestants were selected in their respective communities.
The organizer, Concern Students and Youth Movement (SCYM) of District #8, Montserrado County told this paper that the exercise is intended to get “less-busy” youths off the streets. It is also aimed at making them aware of the importance of education and to embrace it as future leaders.
The competition will feature Olu Sagbah and Rejoice Toe of Brighter Star School; Rejoice Barh of Solitemon School; Amelia Gellay, Elijah Dayglar and many more from other primary schools.
In the junior high category, Miss Bendu Jackson of Christian Cooper Memorial School; Eddie M. Monger of Seventh Day Adventist School, and Pabutu Chieh, Eunice Jorkloh, Robertson Darby and others.
