YOVYOR to conduct voters’ education

With less than ten months to Presidential and General Elections in Liberia, the Country Representative of a newly launched civil society organization, Your Vote, Your Right Inc. (YOVYOR) Mr. Panjue Beyan, said his organization will work with like minds to carry out voters education throughout the country.

According to him, he decided to take up the initiative because the National Elections Commission along cannot carry out civic-voter’s education because it has other activities to do, adding that YOVYOR will partner with other institutions using local vernaculars to educate electorate.

Speaking over the weekend when NEC certificated the organization, Mr. Beyan said though the initiative is cost intensive, they remained committed as a civil duty.

Recently the Chairperson of NEC, Davidetta Browne Lansanah said in a press conference that contract for biometric voter equipment is now done and dusted and voter registration exercise is expected to begin on 20 March.

According to Madam Lansanah, the voter registration exercise will unfold in two phases, the first of which will run for a period of three weeks — from 20 March to 9 April in six counties, including Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu, respectively.

The second phase, she said, will begin on 21 April and end on 11 May 2023 in River Cess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Bong, and Lofa, respectively.

Mr. Beyan noted that many Liberian electorates are either not aware or educated about the biometric VR process therefore, Your Vote, Your Right Inc will do all within its power to educate them before actual voting day on October 10. Editing by Jonathan Browne
