A former Liberian Ambassador Bird Collins has endorsed the candidacy of Vice President Joseph N. Boakai for the Presidency. The ex-envoy said he took the decision after thorough consultation and review of V.P. Boakai’s contributions to public service.

“Having carefully, critically, and thoroughly examined the current presidential field, I have reached the conclusion that our people must wake up, and shine their eyes. We must select the one man who will keep our country safe, secure, peaceful, stable, and prosperous for the benefit of every citizen across this country”, he said.

According to him the 2017 general and presidential elections are not for play, stressing, “there is a need to conduct the elections peacefully and fairly and elect the success to Vice President Boakai, for the world will say, yes, Liberia has now transitioned to a post-conflict democracy.”

Amb. Collins spoke over the weekend when he paida courtesy call on V.P. Boakaiin Monrovia, noting, “For me, I have found the candidate who will deliver the type of leadership that will transform the lives of our people; That candidate is His Excellency Vice President Joseph NyumaBoakai.”.

He endorsedthe Vice President to contest for the Presidency to succeed President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, pledging,“I will work to support his election, and I call on all of my former colleagues in local government administration throughout our 15 counties, my family and relatives, and my friends, both at home and abroad to join me to support Vice President Boakai.”

The former ambassador disclosed that vied for a representative seat in electoral district#10,Montserrado County, highlighting education as a foundation for development.“I strongly believe in education, it will enable people to empower themselves; as the result of that, I presented 10,000 books to my district at the time.”

He stressed empowerment and noted that when a man is empowered, he will surely empower others that are behind,“like the saying teach a man how to fish, instead of giving him fish to eat every day; I do not believe in giving a person a bag of rice, because that rice will finish, but when you teach them, the minds retains it telling what.”

Amb. Collins also o presenteda trophy to the Liberia Broadcasting System or LBS for employees of the station to have competition to promote peace and harmony. “It is against this backdrop that I have thought it to come with this trophy.”

“I know people will want to ask, but why the ambassador pledge his support to the vice president; the reason is simple; first, and foremost the vice president has the experience and capability for the job, he’s a career diplomat and a man with humble beginning and knows when a man is hungry or fill; he also interacts with other politicians and upon this, I found it expedient to endorse his candidacy for 2017.”
