Ecobank Wins 2012 African Bank of the Year

Ecobank Transitional Incorporated (ETI) has been adjudged 2012 African Bank of the Year at the 6th edition of the African Banker Awards held on the sidelines of the just ended Annual General Meetings of the African Development Bank (AFDB) in Arusha, Tanzania.

An EcoBank-Liberia release issued this week said Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Bank Managing Director Olunsengun Agbaje won the African Banker of the year.

The release said transitional bank headquartered in Lome, Togo with a subsidiary in Ghana won the award due to its continued expansion across Africa as well as the recent $200 million investment agreement it signed with South Africa’s Public Investment Corporation.

The release said the Ecobank Group Chief Executive Officer Arnold Ekpe also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event organized by the African Bank magazine, IC Events and Business in Africa Events.

Several banks across Africa also won awards. Attijariwafa Bank in Morocco; BGFI, Garbon; Bank of Kigali, Rwanda; Access Bank, Nigeria, and BCI, Mozambique won the best regional bank in Africa, among others.
