FIBA, LBF Tourney Suffers Setback

The 2010 edition of the FIBA Youth Basketball Tournament previously scheduled to kickoff yesterday June 1 2010 in Monrovia, failed to start due to the abstinence of all of its participants, excluding host Liberia.

No official reason was given for the absence of the participants, but sources closed to the LBF blamed the Liberia Basketball Federation or LBF President Gbour Wilson’s poor human relationship with her colleagues around the World.

Wilson is reportedly noted for her very harsh responses to subordinates and Executive Committee Members of the LBF.

However, the LBF has found a way through, to use and cover up the US $58,000.00 provided by the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports or MYS.

It has been disclosed to the New Dawn Sports that two (a male and a female) Basketball teams from Ivory Coast are expected to arrive in Monrovia today in the name of participating in the competition.

It is expected that the competition will kick off Friday at the Samuel Kayon Doe or SKD Sports Complex Basketball Gymnasium in Paynesville. When contacted for comments, the LBF President Gbour Wilson’s phone rang endlessly without response.

Fred Pratt, Secretary General of the LBF did not give any official reason for the action of those concerned when contacted, but said the LBF has organized a two day tournament with neighboring Ivory Coast.

According to Pratt, the two day event will kick off on Friday June 4th and ends on Saturday, June 5th this year.
