Finance Ministry Intensifies Rape Campaign

The Ministry of Finance, through its personnel department, on yesterday Tuesday, launched an intensive rape campaign. The Ministry’s initiative to combat rape is intended to safe guard and to create awareness among its employees and the general public, by engaging into anything that appears to be rape.

The one day campaign brought together the entire workforce of the ministry with other participants from Gender and Development Ministry, local and international NGOs. The ceremony was characterized with dramas, contemporary Liberian songs and dances.

Well dressed in their blue jeans and T-shirts, the anti rape campaigners paraded the principle streets with banners displaying anti rape messages.

After protracted delay from organizers coupled with jubilation, Deputy Minister Finance for Administration, Tarnue Mawolo called on his co-workers to double efforts against the fight against Gender Based Violence, especially rape which has the propensity of denying women from bearing child, as well as the high risk of being infected by the deadly HIV virus.

Minister Mawolo said that the female led administration has became the process of fighting rape and all gender violence related issues, “so now is the time that we as citizens join the wagon by kicking and creating massive awareness in their various community about lethal effect of rape.”

According to him, the issue of rape has drawn both national and international concern that needs robust action.
