Food For Registered Voters

Vote Your Future, a campaign group comprising of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), University of Liberia Student Union (ULSU) as well as some civil society organizations are dishing out meal (cook food) daily to young registered voters.

The exercise got underway yesterday at various Voters’ Registration Centers particularly in Central Monrovia. The group said “food for registered voters” method is intended to encourage potential reluctant electorates to go and register in the ongoing exercise.

Though the group claimed it is not receiving any financial support from any political party, they are targeting 700,000 young voters.

Ali Sylla, the group Campaign Director told journalists that they will extend the exercise to Nimba, Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa and Margibi Counties.

Yesterday, several students, who are potential registrants, were seen in queues at the Matilda Newport Junior High on Newport Street and G. W. Gibson High School on the Capitol Bye-Pass collecting meal following their voter registration.

Harry Ar-toe Gkornam, another official of the group also said the exercise will be taken to various institutions including video clubs in and around Monrovia to persuade eligible voters to participate in the exercise.
