Hunter Kills 20-Year-Old Boy in Lofa

A boy said to be in his early 20s has died from single barrel shot wounds sustained in Buluyeama Clan, Zozor District in Lofa County after he was shot in the forest by a hunter who mistook him for an animal.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the victim only identified as Johnson, was recently shot in the stomach between Wuomai and Worlorwumo towns by hunter Gbadeh Korboi, who was returning from Wuomai town where he had earlier gone to attend the death meeting of a former sectional chief of Buluyeama Clan, Henry Gbolumah.

Mr. Korboi narrated that while on a hunting expedition on his way home to Worlorwumo town; he spotted Johnson in the forest like an approaching deer and immediately fired him with a single barrel gun.

Johnson reportedly died few days after the incident and has since been buried. The father of the deceased has ordered the release of hunter Gbadeh Korboi from detention on grounds that act was not intentional.

He however advised hunters in the area to be careful in carrying out their hunting activities to avoid killing people. At the same time, hunter Korboi has appealed to other relatives and friends of the victim to forgive him, pleading that it was not his intension to kill the boy.
