Libercell Shut Down

Atlantic Wireless Incorporated otherwise known as  LIBERCELL Communication Company in Monrovia has been shut down.

The closure of the GSM Company was effected on Monday by theTax Court at the Temple of Justice until it pays the sum of US$1,469,926.40  as tax arrears, as well as 6 percent on balance judgement of US$88,195.58 due the Liberian Government.

According to a closure order signed Monday by court clerk Edwin S. Boimah and approved by Judge Eva Mappy-Morgan, the company failed to comply with the payment stipulations before the Tax Court despite repeated warnings.

LIBERICELL had committed itself to paying in ten installments US$1, 837, 407.95 from April 30, 2012 to January 31, 2013, in addition to the immediate 25 percent payment made on the arrears (US$612, 469.32) earlier in February 2012.

In further committing to the court’s stipulation agreed by the communication company, Libercell vowed that the Tax Court should set aside the stipulation and enforce the balance payments if it failed to do full payment.

The company is said to have defaulted on its appeal to the court that it would have made payment on July 23, 2012 since the 25 percent (or US$612, 469.30)payment was done on February 22, 2012.

As a result, the court determined that the total of US$1 Million Dollars is fully paid before Libercell is reopened, thereby setting aside the stipulations on which the company already defaulted.

Court documents had suggested that upon the completion of the payment in ten installments in 2013, LIBERCELL would have paid US$2, 449, and 877.27 due the Liberian government.
