LMA Exposes Marketers to Danger

The question of when will the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) renovate the four-room latrine at the Totota market in Lower Bong County continues to bother many marketers and marketers transacting there.

Other than utilizing the facilities, they prefer the thick bush to ease themselves because of the deplorable condition of the latrine since five years now. It was built by the Sirleaf Market Women Fund (SMWF) in 2008 as part of its economic improvement and empowerment drive.

Since suspected criminals made away with the zinc, the LMA is yet to think about renovation despite its daily collection of huge sums of money from marketers. Local LMA officials in Totota, Salala District have attributed the delays to fear of theft by criminals.

At the moment, the immediate environment of the market building is polluted and there  is fear of an outbreak of diarrheal and other diseases caused by fillies. The Liberian Marketing Association, like the Federation of Road Transport Union, is very lucrative in Liberia, insensitive to the plight of its members and customers throughout the country.
