Lonestar Cell MTN Subscribers Receive Prizes

Liberia’s premier GSM company, Lonestar Cell MTN has begun giving away prizes to winners of its Mobile Money Promotion. The promotion, which started on 23 March 2012, has so far produced more than five lucky winners. The successful subscribers were Wednesday seen walking away with various prizes, including Tiger Generators, DVD players, and 21’ Color Television, amongst others.

Most of the first set of winners came from rural Liberia. Some of them include Ephraim Troh and Lincoln Cassell both from Ganta, Nimba; John Kollie of Lofa County and Daniel Mamula of Duport Road, outside Monrovia. On the launch of the Mobile Money Promotion on March 23, 3,800 subscribers participated in the draw, but only five successful candidates emerged.

Out of the five, one could not be reached by Lonestar Cell MTN despite several dials; it was switched off even up to present. However, Lonestar Cell officers said the prize will be kept until the actual winner is contacted via the number.

Speaking to this paper, the winner from Lofa County John Kollie said he was surprised after being contacted by Lonestar Cell and told he has become a lucky winner of the Mobile Money Promotion. Kollie however said with the encouragement he has received from the company; he will continue to use his mobile money service.

He described the program as excellent and noted that whenever he’s in Monrovia, he usually sent money via his phone to family members back in Lofa without going to the bank.

He encourage Lonestar Cell to sensitize Liberians on how to use the service because according to him, it reduces the burden of going to bank and standing on queue for hours to send money to relatives in Lofa or other counties.

Lonestar Cell Mobile Money Manager, Samelia Dempster-Tweh acknowledged the winner’s concerns and promised to sensitize the public, particularly Lonestar Cell subscribers about the importance of the Mobile Money program.

Mobile Money is a financial service that has been launched by Ecobank and Lonestar Cell MTN here to save and transact money business via phone.
