LPRC prepares for heavy fuel importation

What appears to be a boost in the petroleum industry here has begun at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company or LPRC as the entity starts to import heavy fuel that will be used mostly by concession companies, including the Liberia Electricity Corporation, LEC.

The LPRC says it is pleased to make the petroleum market accessible and affordable for every Liberians.

Managing Director T. Nelson Williams, said with the importation of heavy fuel oil beginning May this year, LEC users will now be happy because the tariff on electricity will drop to make it affordable to every Liberian.

“By May this year the LPRC will resume the importation of heavy fuel oil with the importation of the heavy fuel oil the tariff of the LEC will reduce; I know that this is good news for LEC users,” he noted.

The LPRC boss spoke Wednesday, March 25, 2015 when he was honored by the Petroleum Importers Association of Liberia (PIAL) at company’s head office on Bushrod Island.

Mr. Williams thanked the group for noticing his hard work at the entity, saying, “I must say it is difficult to accept this honor because I see this as doing my job and in doing my job I have received a honor and I am happy for the honor; I accept this award; I accept it on behalf of the senior management team, who has been making it possible for the success of the sector.” 

He said President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has been very supportive in the improvement of the LPRC, noting that her leadership, especially during the Ebola crises proves to the international world the resilience of Liberians.

Speaking earlier, the president of PIAL, Musa Bility, said the Association honored Managing Director Williams for his hard work at the entity.

Mr. Bility praised Mr. Williams for constructing additional storages that enable importers to save money.

He said the LPRC boss’ leadership has provided protection in the petroleum sector in Liberia and thanked President Sirleaf for having Mr. Williams as Managing Director for the company saying, T. Nelson’s leadership has touched the lives of importers.

Bility praised the LPRC boss for prioritizing Liberian importers in the importation of petroleum products on the Liberian market.

He assured that importers will continue to cooperation with the William-led management, saying, Nelson William has brought value to Liberian importers; as such, “We will not forget about you because you brought value to us.”

The ceremony brought together both members of PIAL and international importers, respectively.
