NEC begins daily press briefing today

In a bid to increase public information about activities of the 10 October polls and the announcement of preliminary and final results, the National Elections Commission will begin holding daily press conferences as of Monday, 9 October, the eve of the 2023 Elections.

The Conference will begin at 4:30 pm each day in the James M. Fromayan Conference Hall at the headquarters of the Commission, and they will run up to the final announcement and declaration of winners of the elections.

The start of daily press conferences is also in the spirit of boosting public access to news and information on electoral activities, which aims to enhance transparency and integrity of the electoral process.

The press briefings, like previous ones, will also be opened to political partiesโ€™ representatives, and electoral stakeholders, including local and international partners and observers.

In a related development, the NEC reminds all political parties and candidates that as the political campaign ends at midnight, Sunday, 8 October 2023, parties and candidates are required to remove all campaign materials that are within 100 meters of a voting precinct.

Electorates are also advised not to carry any campaign material to the polling place on Election Day. Additionally, in other to preserve the secrecy of the ballots, electorates are not allowed to take photos of their marked ballots; therefore, no camera or camera phone will be allowed behind the voting screen.

The 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections will be conducted on Tuesday, 10 October 2023 from 8 am to 6 pm for the positions of president, senators, and representatives.-Press release
