New Strategy For Sports Sponsorship Advanced

A new strategy to attract sponsorships for local sports has been proposed. The President of the Promoters of Liberian Athletes (PROLA) has proposed that sports developers and administrators seeking sponsorships and other means could name their clubs and teams in honor of counties and communities.

PROLA President, Joseph Farkollie told the New Dawn in an exclusive interview that there is an urgent need to seek sponsorship for various sporting programs, instead of waiting on central government.

He said the current sporting budget being provided by government is meager and cannot cover all of the various sporting programs.

Mr. Farkollie named Ghana as one of the countries, which provides sponsorship for sporting programs, and enables sponsors to buy jersey and other equipmentfor the teams. Mr. Farkollie noted that; “Liberia will not move forward in terms of sports if the necessary mechanisms and resources are not pump into sports development.”

He further stated that in addition to sponsorship, government and other sports stakeholders must now begin to seek grants that aid in the development of sports.

The PROLA Boss said; “Back in 1978 when President Tolbert visited China, it was his ingenuity that brought the grant of $35m to construct the Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex.”
