President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia, has sent a message of consolation to her counterpart, His Excellency Mr. ReuvenRivlin, President of the State of Israel, for the passing of Mr. Shimon Peres, a former President and twice Prime Minister of Israel.
A Foreign Ministry release quotes President Sirleaf in her Condolence Message to President Rivlin, as saying: “It is with profound shock and deep sorrow that we have learned of the death of Mr. Shimon Peres a towering political figure, who served twice as Prime Minister and as President of your great country.”
Mrs. Sirleaf said Mr. Peres, who also served as a former President of Israel and won the Nobel Peace Prize, will be remembered for the formidable role he played in the founding of the State of Israel and the most prominent effort to consolidate lasting peace with Palestine and Israel’s Arab neighbors under the Oslo Peace Accord of 1993.
In her message to her Israeli counterpart, presidentSirleafon behalf of the Government and People of Liberia, and in her own name, extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of the State of Israel, especially the bereaved family, for the irreparable loss sustained.
“It is our hope that the resilience and strength that the People of Israel have always demonstrated during challenging circumstances will be brought to bear during this difficult period of national mourning,” the President expressed with deep regrets.
