Rivercess Open Tryout

The defending Track and Field champion of the 2009/2010 National Sports Meet has reopened for new runners. Rivercess County head coach Samuel Kaizolu told the New Dawn Thursday that he will be conducting tryout on Saturday.

The tryout will take place at the Samuel K Doe Stadium in the morning beginning at 7:00am.  He said, the tryout is intended to provide interested runners the opportunity to make their path into the 18 man delegation for this county meet.

With the additional two new event added by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, there are need for fresh blood on the track, Kaizolu said. Samuel Kaizolu clarified rumors about the possible absent of few runners from last year.

“It is true that we are not sure of our female hundred meters runner, but we are giving her time until she can return to Liberia,” he said.

Rivercess will engage the best of all to retain the trophy. Recently the county scouted five students from the just ended nationwide high school tournament; they will also be component of the tryout on Saturday.

Coach Samuel explained that the absent of monthly or quarterly run tournament serve as a discouraging factors for young and Senior Trackers. He also wants the Ministry of Youth and Sports to introduce the starting block during next county Meet.

The starting block is very important to runners, because it provides a bit force to the runners as they pickup for 100, 200 and 400 meters heats.  He also praised the Ministry for the introduction of High and Long Jump.
