Threats of Go-Slow in Bong Again

Health workers in Bong County are again threatening a go-slow action at various hospitals and clinics if their salaries and benefits were not paid. Several Physician Assistants, Nurses and Mid-wives reportedly trooped to the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment in Gbarnga, Bong County in anticipation of their two month salaries and benefits, but to no avail, as others received.

According to them, they had only received their incentives in March, but were reportedly told by their supervisors that such incentives had been cancelled, but were given no reason for the decision by the Health Ministry, but only admonished them to be patient as they could do nothing about it.

They further threatened to abandon hospitals and clinics in pursuit of food and other house-hold items for their respective families. When our Bong County Correspondent contacted the County Health Officer of Bong, Dr. Gafi Williams on the situation, his mobile phone rang endlessly on a number of occasions up to the evening without any response.

Attempts by this paper’s Monrovia office did not also materialize as his phone rang unanswered even though he earlier reported to have been attending a workshop by a colleague of his.
