12- year-old wins Liberia’s first Quran recitation competition 

Islamic scholars have praised Bilal Jallah for his excellent performance and encouraged other Muslim children to emulate him.

Monrovia, March 24, 2024: 12-year-old Haifz Bilal Jallah has emerged as the overall winner of Liberia’s first Quranic recitation competition.

Student Jallah hails from the Markaz Riduwanllah Islamic School in Fendall Community, Montserrado County.

Little Jalloh memorized the entire Holy Quran without any mistakes, scoring 100 % marks.

He won himself a cash prize of US$1,000. He recited the Qur’an with his amazing voice, beating his closest competitor, Mohammed Cheriff Diallo, who scored 96.1 % in the memorization competition.

Diallo was awarded a cash prize of US$500, followed by Chermoh Kamu Flomo, who finished third, scoring 94.6 %.

Flomo, another brilliant and fast-talking kid, won himself a cash prize of US$200 in the colorful Islamic National Quranic Recitation Competition that brought together several Muslim scholars from different communities across the country.

The United DA’ WAH UMMAH of Liberia (UDU ) organized the first Quranic Recitation Competition, which was co-sponsored by the Fouta Cement Corporation, the Bility Development Foundation, and Conex Liberia, among others. 

Other reciters were also awarded cash prizes provided by the sponsors.

Sheikh Alhussine A. Sow, Chairman of United DA’ WAH UMMAH of Liberia, commanded the Muslim community for its support and participation in making the competition successful.

He showered praises on little Bilal Jallah for his excellent performance while encouraging other Muslim kids to follow suit.

Mr. Sow called for more support to enlarge the competition, saying next year, Liberia will seek to send representatives to the International Quranic Recitation Competition.

According to him, judges came from Guinea to transparently participate in the national Quranic recitation competition and were honored for their services.
