Health Workers Write State Board Exams
The Government of Liberia has administered state board examinations to over 350 nurses and midwives in Monrovia. The exams are intended to test candidatesโ ability in order to license them for professional practice. Deddeh Jones, head of testing and evaluation told the media that successful candidates will be issued certificates (licenses) to practice in the country.
โWe are life savers and we donโt need quacks in this profession, we decided to be straight forward. Therefore, any candidate, who failed the exams, than you need to go back for another refreshing,โ Mrs. Jones noted. She said applicants, who wrote this yearโs examinations came from professional nursing colleges or schools throughout the country.
โFrom the United Methodist University Nursing School in Ganta; Smythe Institute, Phebe and many others and we expect that they will do their best,โ she noted.
Of the over 350 candidates, 31 are midwives, while the rest are nurses. They sat for the 2-day examinations at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center early this week (Monday-Tuesday) in Sinkor, Monrovia. Some of the candidates expressed their delight by sitting for the state board examinations for the first time.
