PCC, Angie Brooks Center Receive Medical Supplies

The Liberian Association of Southern California has donated a consignment of medical drugs and equipment to the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) and the Angie Brooks International Center for Women Empowerment.

The supply was donated by the US-based Liberian organization as part of its support to the two organizations here. Speaking Friday, September 18 while receiving the forty-foot container, the acting Mayor of Paynesville, Madam Cyvette M. Gibson, lauded the group for its kind gesture.

According to the PCC boss, the donated drugs and equipment will impact the lives of some citizens of the city. “I am happy about this donation. During the Ebola, we did a lot to keep our health system in tact in the city, and so it is our aim to do more with this kind of donation. We are most grateful; very grateful about it,” said the PCC boss.

“Donation of this magnitude will impact the lives of our citizens. Already we have good relationship with a lot of clinic and health center within our municipality, so distributing these items will be something every easy. As I speak to you, we have already identified a number of clinic and health centers, and by next week, we will begin distributing these items to them,” she said.

Madam Gibson disclosed that another container full of medical drugs and equipment donated by the Diaspora Liberian organization is on the way, and is expected to arrive within the next 30 days. The Paynesville city government head noted that even though the city has recorded some success stories; a lot more need to be done in a bid to improve the livelihood of the people.

For her part, the head of the Angie Brooks International Center for Women Empowerment, Cllr. Yvette Cheeson Wureh, joined Madam Gibson in lauding the US-based Liberian group for the donation, describing it as meaningful.

The renowned female lawyer noted that the Angie Brooks Center will also begin with its part of the distribution by next week. “For us, we will begin distribution of these items as early as next week with clinic that we have already identified. We need to appreciate and empower our health workers, because they are our awesome heroes that people don’t really know about. They need to be acknowledged and supported for their invaluable services to mankind. Though little, this is going to make little impact in the health sector.” -Press Release
