Liberia meets Guinea Bissau today

The nation’s pride – the Lone Star, take on the national team of Guinea Bissau today at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia as part of the World Cup Qualifiers.

The Guinea Bissau National Team arrived Tuesday in Monrovia for today’s game. Meanwhile, Lone Star Head Coach, James S. Debbah, has vowed to discipline striker Francis “Grandpa” Doe for misbehaving to a local base player during training.

Speaking during a pre-match conference at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia, Coach Debbah said his primary focus for now is the World Cup Qualifiers match against Guinea Bissau today, Thursday and the return leg scheduled in six days away.

Striker Grandpa Doe, who scored the lone goal that yielded victory for the Lone Star of Liberia against Tunisia, exhibited bad sportsmanship against local base Garpu Kollie during training two days ago for today’s game. He hit Garpu in the 88th minute of a test match between local base players and foreign-based players of the Lone Star as the defender tried preventing him from scoring the third goal for the professionals.   

Coach Debbah described the behavior as an act of indiscipline, which will not go unpunished.  In September 2010 Doe was expelled from the national team by the late Hungarian Coach, Bertalan Bicskie, for “constant uncontrollable behaviours” including boycott of camp and other acts that breached the code of conduct for national team players.

Meanwhile, Coach Debbah has disclosed that he will apply 4-4-2 strategy against Guinea Bissau in the match today, adding that the boys are fully prepared. Debbah said he will feature the same team that defeated the Tunisian National Team recently in Monrovia, but with two new players.
