AFL Chief denies boycotting Joint Security Meeting

By Lincoln G. Peters

Liberia’s Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Prince Charles Johnson, III, has denied a social media report that he allegedly boycotted a Joint Security Meeting on Monday, 16 October 2023.

In a phone interview with our reporter, Gen. Johnson termed as completely false and misleading, the accusation by former Deputy Information Minister Mr. Eugene L. Fahngon that he had boycotted a Joint Security meeting.

Additionally, Johnson denied Mr. Fahngon’s claim that he had walked out of the Joint Security meeting and refused to deploy the military to intimidate peaceful citizens.

Mr. Fahngon in a Facebook post on Monday, 16 October, wrote: “Breaking News: Maj. General Prince C. Johnson walks out of Joint Security Meeting; says the votes of the people must be respected; refused to deploy the military to intimidate citizens.”

In the phone interview with our reporter, Gen. Johnson neither confirmed nor denied any planned Joint Security meeting.

“All that I can say is that it’s so so lies. That man is saying so so lies. That is fake news,” he said.

“Maybe the Justice Ministry will response to it. But, if you want to quote me, it’s lies. And so quote me as lies. If you can accept it, go ahead and accept it but all I can say it’s a lie’’ he concluded.
