Bassa Earmarks US$85,000 for County Meet

Reports reaching The New Dawn Sports, say that Grand Bassa County Sports Association has earmarked at least US$85,000.00 for the county’s participation in the 2010 edition of the National County Sports Meet.

According to the reports, the money will be used to purchase sets of jerseys for all the teams that will take part in the competition which begins on the 18th of December this year. Part of this amount is to be used to buy players bedding, and the balance will be used to transport the various teams of the county to and from games’ venues.

Though the report did not state whether the US$85,000.00 is already in hand or how it will be raised, it is believed that the organizing committee of the National County Sports Meet is going to provide US$20,000.00 of this amount and the county Legislative caucus is to provide the rest.

At the same time, a 50 man-steering committee was set up on September 1, 2010 by Grand Bassa County authorities. The committee has been charged with the responsibility of receiving and managing all funds coming to the county Sports Association.

Meanwhile, 30 football players are currently training for the pending tournament in Buchannan, the provincial capital of Grand Bassa County. The kickball, basketball and volleyball players are expected to begin training shortly.
