Capacity-building for NHA

The African Development Bank has approved a capacity-building initiative for the National Housing Authority. According to an official of the NHA, the capacity-building will mainly target the Technical Services Department and the Information Technology or IT Unit respectively. It is expected to take effect in May 2016.

Public Affairs Officer T. Maxwell Davies said the initiative is currently being negotiated with Cities Alliance to further enhance the competence of staff of the NHA. Mr. Davies indicated that the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment or LBDI is presently providing mortgage loans to beneficiaries of the housing programs of the institution, saying the total mortgage loans financed by the LBDI to date were about forty beneficiaries, while additional One Hundred and Thirty mortgage loans are in process.

The National Housing Authority is the Agency of the Government of Liberia, established by an Act of the Legislature on April 7, 1960, to initiate, plan, and implement housing development programs nationwide.

Consistent with the GOL’s quest to improve the livelihood of Liberians, the NHA is focused on the provision of affordable housing through innovative housing development programs that involve both intra-Governmental partnerships and actors from the private sector.

National Social Security and Welfare Corporation or NASSCORP Village Housing Estate has constructed and dedicated Fifty-Eighty three bed- room housing units as Phase II of the NASSCORP Village Housing Estate located in Brewerville City, Montserrado County, with funding by the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation during the period under review.

The Total units completed to-date is 93(2&3 bed-room units).When completed, the estate will consist of 250 housing units.

During Phase I, 53 bed-room standalone units were completed, with funding from the government. The construction of additional 28 housing units is currently underway as Phase II. The Total units completed to-date is 52.

When completed, the estate will consist of 125 housing units. The NHA is also in partnership with the Ministry Of Health to construct and facilitate the mortgage of 100three-bedroom housing units for 100 health workers in eight counties. The procurement process is currently underway.
