Chinese Embassy donates food rations to universities in Liberia

The People’s Republic of China through its Embassy near Monrovia has provided eight hundred bags of rice to several universities across Liberia.

Beneficiaries of the Chinese Christmas gesture include Tubman University, Cuttington University, Bomi Community College, and the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC). 

Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu turned over the donation to the representatives of the respective universities early Thursday, 14 December 2023 in the conference room of the Chinese Embassy.

Before the turning-over exercise, a signing ceremony and documentation process were done, followed by an exchange of files. 

Bomi Community College Vice Principal for Administration, Mr. James Sowah, and Cuttington University Head of Marketing Madam Helen K. Kiamue represented and signed for their respective institutions.

Also, Mr. Alieu Lee Kemokai, President of the Monrovia Vocational Training Center, and Dr. Olu Menjay, President of Tubman University, represented and signed for their respective institutions. 

Remarking on the program, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu said that the donation was regarding the support of education and the festive season.

According to him, they regard education as the foundation of a society, adding that they are committed to educational exchange and partnership.

Mr. Yin said he believes that this is a step to mitigate hunger in Liberia. He said the Embassy remains committed to supporting Liberia. 

“To maintain this relationship, we have decided to today donate one hundred bags of rice each to the institutions here,” he said. 

“This is for friendship. However, what more important is that we hope we can help the students of these various institution to focus more on study. We believe this will encourage them to do more,” he noted. 

Receiving the donation, Cuttington University’s Head of Marketing Mrs Helen K. Kiamue, and the President of Tubman University, Mr. Olu Menjay, in separate remarks, extolled the People’s Republic of China for the donation. 

According to them, the gesture is the justification for China’s Relationship and Partnership towards cementing education exchange. 

For their part, the Vice Principal for Administration at the Bomi Community College, Mr. James Sowah, and Alieu Lee Kamokai in separate statements appreciated the People’s Republic of China through its Embassy for the season gesture. 

“We want to thank you for this donation. To admit, we are completely happy and grateful to you for this invaluable contribution,” they noted. 

“We believe that with this, our students will learn and study well. It’s noted that a hungry man can’t learn. So, we say thank you for the partnership and support.”
