Ebola survivors’ clinic opened at ELWA
The first Ebola survivor clinic has been established at ELWA hospital to respond to health problems from survivors in and around Liberia.
Speaking Thursday, 29 January on UNMIL Radio’s Coffee Break, the founder of the clinic, Dr. Joel Hutchinson, said the purpose of the clinic is to administer regular medication to patients who have recovered from the deadly Ebola virus.
Dr. Hutchinson said services are offered every Wednesday free of charge, adding that the prime objective is to help survivors coming from ETUs but are complaining of eyes, bones and other complications after spending time in the Ebola Treatment Unit.
He said his hope is to have the clinic established throughout the country because survivors are in the counties and they may not have the means to come to Monrovia for regular treatment.
‘’ It is my hope and prayer that the people living out of Montserrado, will have such clinic established in each county that they will be able to get treatment and not to come all the way to Monrovia’’, he added.
Meanwhile Dr. Hutchinson is calling on all Liberians to help all Ebola survivor, saying, ‘’this is not the time for us to turn our backs on Ebola survivor.”
Liberia’s first Ebola case was recorded on March 30, 2014 in Foya, Lofa County. The virus subsequently spread to several counties and took away over 8,000 lives, including doctors, nurses and health workers.
