I’m a celebrity president

Weah says of controversial book about him

By Lincoln G. Peters

President George Manneh Weah has broken silence about a controversially explicit book authored purported to be his biography by Emmanuel Clarke and Isaac Vah Tukpah, saying he is a ‘celebrity president’ and people will only talk about celebrities to get money and success at their expense.

Addressing a religious Christian Crusade in Paynesville this week, President Weah stated that Liberian people are just finding it difficult to re-connect because, on many occasions, he had told them that he is a celebrity president that people will like to talk about.

“I told you that I am a celebrity and people will only talk about celebrities. If you [are] nobody, nobody will talk about you. Meanwhile, when you [are] somebody, people will talk about you,” said President.

“Try being nobody and believe that they will write [a] book or talk about you, it’s a lie. You have to be somebody before they can write [a] book about you. Even the person that [is] writing the book whether legal or not, they want to make money, therefore, they want to use your name to be rich and successful,” President Weah explained.

Mr. Emmanuel Clarke and Mr. Isaac Vah Tukpah, co-authors of the book ‘George Weah, The Dream, The Legend, The Rise To Power,’ came under widespread public criticism here for detailed explicit sex accounts they provided in the book.

It resulted in Mr. Tukpah resigning his position as Chief of Staff in the office of opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) leader Alexander Cummings.

The book contains obscene and defaming narratives against the First Family of the Republic of Liberia. Tukpah was returned to Monrovia by Immigration and Police Officials after being caught along the border between Liberia and Sierra Leone, apparently attempting to leave Liberia. But he was later released to his lawyer and he has since left the country.

However, President Weah said he is a celebrity President and people will only talk about celebrities to get money and success at their expense. He appeared to show no regret about the book being published against his family.

Speaking in a Biblical tone to the Christian congregation at the crusade, called on them to remember that God is in control and should not allow anyone to put them down and define who they are.

He urged them to always tell themselves that they are blessed, talented, strong, healthy and wonderfully made by God.

According to him, he chooses God that brings him success, therefore, he declares by the special grace of God that he is enough, rightfully positioned and is the leader who will develop this nation and continue to empower its citizens.

“Let have faith in God and remember that he is able to do everything we ask of him. This God has the ability to make us successful and prosperous in all that we do. We have to put God first in everything that we do and trust that he will make us happy,” President Weah concluded.https://thenewdawnliberia.com/tukpah-was-prevented-for-his-own-safety/
