Monrovia, March 29, 2024: A circuit court judge in Monrovia, Blamo Dixon, has accused President Joseph Nyumah Boakai of allegedly engaging in nepotism and tribalism in appointing officials.

Speaking at a fund-raising rally at the D. Tweh Memorial High School on Thursday, 28 March 2024, Judge Dixon alleged that seven of every ten appointees are from President Boakai’s county, Lofa.

The resident Criminal Court “C” Judge accused President Boakai of engaging in tribalism, nepotism, and favoritism in appointing public officials.

Judge Dixon argued that though the 1986 Constitution gives the president exclusive authority to nominate anyone of his choice to positions within his government, the president has allegedly appointed his tribal men [more] to government positions.

“For every twenty (20) persons appointed in government, fourteen (14) of those persons hailed from Lofa County,” Judge Dixon alleged.

“Yet, [a] blunder [is] made in the appointment process that needs to be corrected. The President continues to engage in the practices of tribalism, nepotism, and favoritism in the appointment of public officials,” the Judge stated.

Judge Dixon suggested that the political culture of Liberia under President Boakai has not changed.

“The True Whig Party Government was for the Americo-Liberians. The Samuel K. Doe Government was for the Krahn people. The Amos C. Sawyer Government was for the movement for Justice in Africa and the Student Unification Party of the University of Liberia Group,” Dixon explained.

He continued that the Gyude Bryant-led government was for the disbanded warring factions, and the Charles Taylor-led government was for the Americo-Liberians.

“The Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf government was for the Americo-Liberians. The George Weah government was for the Southeastern People. Therefore, the Joseph Boakai government is no exception; it’s for the Lofa people,” said Judge Dixon.

On Thursday, Judge Dixon was a guest speaker at the induction and fundraising program for the D. Tweh Memorial High School’s leadership-elect, held in New Kru Town, Bushrod Island.
