Bong County District #6 Representative Moima Briggs-Mensah has described the tanker explosion in Totota, Bong County, as a national disaster.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, 26 December 2023, killing dozens of victims and wounding others.
Madam Briggs-Mensah said the fire disaster must draw the attention of both government and international partners.
Speaking to this paper in an interview via mobile phone, she said an examination conducted by Representatives of the Disaster Management Agency at the site of the incident revealed that 32 victims got burnt beyond recognition.
She added that four deaths were pronounced in Hospitals across the county.
The Bong County District #6 Representative also revealed that the total number of injured persons taken to various hospitals across the country has exceeded 100, besides those being treated at home by family members within the community.
She used the occasion to call on the government, international partners, and other well-meaning Liberians to come to the aid of the people of Totota and Bong County.
She lamented that the number of deaths continues to rise from various hospitals where the injured people were taken across the country.
She however extended her gratitude to the offices of Bong County Senators Prince Moye and Johnny Kpehe, the health workers in the country, as well as community dwellers for their individual and collective efforts in responding to the situation on time.
On Tuesday, 26 December 2023 at about 5:30 pm, a Petroleum Tanker conveying gasoline from Monrovia to Gbarnga burst into flame on the Totota main street where it had earlier fallen, killing about 32 persons and leaving over a hundred others seriously injured.
The residents according to information, had reportedly gathered to make away with gasoline pouring from the Tanker when it burst into flame.
