Man 22, allegedly commits suicide in Harper

A 22- years-old man identified as  Nimely Sayed has been discovered hanging on a rope in Nyekanbo Community, Harper City, Maryland county Electoral distric#1 in a suspected suicide.

Speaking to reporters on  Wednesday, February 2, 2022, the mother of the victim, Catherine Seton narrated that during evening hours at about 7 to 8:00 PM, she and her late son lectured before going to bed in their respective rooms.

She continues that when they all woke up early the following day, it was noticed that the victim hasn’t woken up, so it got them worried, leading them to check on him only to discover the deceased hanging on a rope in his room.

“We were all together after he came from out and we stayed longer time together out lecturing, but he didn’t complain to us that he was facing some challenges, even he didn’t show any sign of feeling sad but to our surprised, he was discovered death”, she lamented.

She disclosed that her late son was a 10th-grade student of the Cape Palmas High School, but dropped out of school after the death of his father.

Speaking further, some eyewitnesses narrated that prior to the incident, the late Nimely allegedly told some family members and others that he would have done something one day to surprise them and they kept asking him what is that thing, but he never responded to his family members in the community before his demise.

Nimely’s lifeless body was seen hanging on a rope early Wednesday morning until officers of the Liberia National Police, County Health Team, and community leaders arrived to examine it.

Meanwhile, a 15-man jury comprised of the zone leadership and County Health Team after a thorough examination of the corpse reported no foul play.

Police in the district have launched an investigation into circumstances surrounding the death.

For his part, community chairman Patrick D. Attiogbe described the victim as kind and respectful in the community.

“Let me say to you that the deceased’s death news is surprising to the community; last night when we got the sad information about our son who was very respectful and honor to us, even we are still wondering what actually happened for which he has allegedly committed a suicide”, Chairman Attiogbe laments.
