Miss UL donates to physically challenged, orphans

Miss University of Liberia Roberthalyne Kollie has distributed rice to physically challenged persons at the Antoinette Tubman Cheshire Home in Sinkor and orphans in Dualzhon, outside Monrovia, respectively.

The Miss UL accompanied by her delegates on Saturday, January 18, 2014, including Mr. Alex Divine and others, told the inmates and their caretakers on 10th Street, Cheesman Avenue that she enjoyed spending time and sharing gifts with them.

She presented two bags of rice to the physically challenged and two bags of rice, to the orphanage home, respectively, stressing they are Liberians and need help. “On behalf of me and the University of Liberia, this is a little token, and I appreciate being among you all this morning,” said the UL Queen.

According to her, she will visit the homes monthly. At the Love A Child Orphanage Home in Dualzhon, Miss UL described the kids there as future leaders, and that it was worthy identifying with them. She encouraged the kids to be focused on the future, saying they were dear to her heart.

The founder and proprietor of the Orphanage Home Madam Rebecca Reah thanked the queen and her delegates, and urged others to emulate her example because she cannot do it all by herself.

“I have the vision to keep the children in my house; there are others who don’t have the vision to keep them to their houses but they have the vision to contribute to their wellbeing. So we are happy to have you here, and we hope this will not be the last time,” said Madam Reah.

Earlier, a janitor at the home for the physically challenged, Mr. Jonah Dolakeh outlined several challenges, including poor salaries.  He said the disabled are fed three times daily, but they get low support. He however said the home is not a government owned, adding that other organizations, including bankers association make donations there.
