MORPA Wants Confiscated Meat Auctioned

The Movement for Peace, Development and Reconciliation or MORPA in Sinoe wants the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) auction a consignment of meat it confiscated in Jalay Town, Wedjah County District in Sinoe County.

Lewis Jadoe, MORPA’s Coordinator told this paper in Sinoe that it was needless for the ERU to continue seizing the meat when those arrested in connection with economic  sabotage in the Sarpo National Park have all been set free by County Attorney John Gabriel.

Jadoe noted that by law, any goods confiscated by government must be auctioned publicly with the proceeds placed in state coffers. “Sinoe authority needs to do this so as a means of setting precedence in the county,” he emphasized.

In confirmative with the Rights Groups call, Atty.  John Gabriel said because the matter was in court, he couldn’t comment further, indicating that was customary that perishable goods,  when confiscated, are sold and receipts presented in court as a fruit of the crime.

Gabriel stressed that those apprehended in Jalay Town were set free on bail. However, there are rumors that the consignment of confiscated meat has been shared among some government officials in the county. But the report has not been independently verified.
