The Liberia Football Association national league ended in a grand style Sunday, 27 September at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia with Nimba United walking away as champions.
They won the championship after defeating LISCR FC 4-2 in the second leg of the national league in post-match penalty. The full 90 minutes of play ended a zero-all draw. Nimba United, who came from the second division last league season made their way in becoming the champions for the 2015 Liberia Football Association national league.
They have shown that they can deal with pressure in representing Liberia in the upcoming CAF league. Speaking to this paper after the match, Sonia Boy Dolo, one of the key players of Nimba United said, “We had a difficult week – difficult decisions to make, from the keeper to the centre-forward. I’m very proud that our club [won] this championship this year.”
He said it has always been the dream of CEO Dolo to see his team to the first division championship and they are ready to represent Liberia in the upcoming CAF competition. “We have worked over night to make his dream comes truth and today is also my birthday; I bless God for this day.”
In the FA Cup, BYC for the second time flogged Monrovia Club Breweries to win the championship. The second division club BYC2 ended the 2015 league season on Saturday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) with a 3-2 victory in post-match penalty against the club Breweries boys.
But the Breweries boys controlled the game throughout the 90minutes of play without conceding a goal, while midfielder Oscars of Club Breweries was the man of the game. On the other hand, BYC2 goalkeeper Alpha Jalloh, was splendid between the poles, collecting all shots on goal in the full 90mins plus extra time and during the penalty shoot-out made his name by leading the “Blue Boys” to championship.
