No new Ebola case
No new Ebola case has been recorded in Liberia since April 18, according to an official of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Assistant Health Minister for Preventive Services and Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Liberia, Tolbert Nyenswah, said if Liberia does not record new cases of the deadly disease in 21 days, the country could on track to be eventually declared Ebola free.
He also said of the 61 Ebola suspects listed, 59 have completed the 21-day follow-up with negative results. According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), Nyensuah made the disclosure Tuesday when he appeared on the ELBC radio talk show, ‘Super Morning Show,’ to give an update on the fight against the Ebola virus in the country.
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer, who described the results of the follow-up as encouraging, said health authorities are still carrying out follow-up on the remaining cases. Nyensuah attributed the success scored so far in the fight against the Ebola virus to the swift intervention of government and its partners as well as community people.
He, however, admonished Liberians to continue to respect preventive measures announced the Health Ministry to ensure that Liberia reaches the point where it will be declared free of the Ebola virus. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer has said there is no new recorded Ebola-related death in recent times.
