Police in Ganta, Nimba County have arrested a notorious Ivorian armed robber who is alleged to have been involved in series of robberies in the commercial city.
The alleged robber, Abu Weamie 38, was arrested at his girlfriend’s house in Ganta after police put up a wanted notice for him in the city.
Weamie was said to have been involved in the robbery that led to the death of Nimba’s promising football star Victor Sabu Yenglee.
The Ivorian national was said to have narrowly escaped death at the hands of angry mob after a failed robbery at the home of one Harney Kerkulah, a local resident.
Our reporter says the presence of the suspected notorious Ivorian criminal has increased armed robbery activities in Ganta. His arrest brings to eight the number of armed robbery suspects that have been arrested in the city in recent times.
Residents of Ganta including travelers have been affected by the increase in armed robbery activities in the city. The increase in armed robbery activities prompted the government to deploy officers of the Police Support Unity (PSU) in the booming commercial city.
Our Nimba County correspondent who visited the Liberia – Ivorian border said villagers were celebrating the arrest of Weamie by whom they have been victimized.
Few weeks ago, travelers from the South -Eastern part of the country were robbed of their belongings including huge cash at gunpoint.
Residents of Ganta including travelers and businesspeople have extended gratitude to the government for assigning armed officers in the city.
