Peacebuilding Office confers on electoral integrity

The Liberia peacebuilding office commences a three-day high-level conference on electoral integrity under the theme: United for credible, peaceful elections and a prosperous Liberia” at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia.

The conference aims to reinforce and safeguard the integrity of Liberia and prevent anything that could undermine the integrity of the October elections by triggering electoral violence that could potentially threaten the hard-earned peace and plunge the country back into its darkest days.

It brings together over 100 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps, the media, civil society actors, the judiciary, youth, and women from all 15 political subdivisions of Liberia.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Sam G. Doe, who is current resident representative of UNDP in South Sudan, admonishes the National Elections Commission to address all electoral complaints in due time to avoid conflict.

He reminds that electoral fraud damages a country’s international image, and call on all parties, including the National Election Commission and the judiciary to ensure fair trial of all electoral complaints.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the Liberia peacebuilding office, Mr. Edward Mulbah, says the conference is a call to action to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
