President Sirleaf in New York for High-Level, Bilateral Meetings

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is in New York, U.S.A. following a successful trip to Brussels, Belgium where she participated in a High-Level Ebola Conference held under the auspices of the European Union. 

The Executive Mansion quotes a dispatch from New York, as saying President Sirleaf, who arrived early last Friday, addressed the UN High-Level Thematic Debate on “Advancing Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls for a Transformation Post-2015 Development Agenda,” later on Friday.

The program also commemorated the anniversary of the International Women’s Day, under the slogan: “Empower women, Empower humanity. Picture it.”

Following the official ceremony, President Sirleaf chaired an interactive panel on the theme: “Women Economic and Political Empowerment, including access to decent work, and control over economic and productive resources and active participation in governance and decision making.”

President Sirleaf  will today, Monday, attend the launch of “No Ceiling Full Participation Report on Women’s Progress,” hosted by Hilary Clinton and Melinda Gates.  

She will serve as Guest Speaker at this event.

Additionally, The President will deliver the Keynote Address at the UN Women pinnacle celebration of the historic landmark of the Beijing Conference which set a road map for women’s equality and empowerment globally.
