Rotary Club Holds Charity Ball

Counselor Izetta Sombo Wesley has said rotary is the world’s premier international humanitarian service organization. Wesley, President of the Rotary Club of Monrovia said the body is a diverse global network of community, business, and professional leaders, who address relevant social causes to change lives and build goodwill and peace at home and abroad.

She made these assertions during this year’s annual Charity Fund Raising Ball of the Rotary Club of Monrovia held over the weekend in Monrovia.

“We work with the world health organization, UNICEF, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and national governments towards our primary goal of eradicating polio worldwide,” Wesley noted.

She indicated the organization also focuses on peace and conflict prevention or resolution; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy as well as economic and community development.

The Rotary Club of Monrovia was established in 1964 with five operating clubs, including Rotary Club of Monrovia; Rotary Club of Saint Paul River in Virginia, Montserrado County; Rotary Club of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County; Rotary Club of Gbarnga, Bong County; and Rotary Club of Yekepa, Nimba County, respectively.

As a result of the civil war, rotary activities were halted as all of the clubs lost their charters. However, the Rotary Club of Monrovia was re-chartered in 2000 and continues to carry out the work of rotary.

The Rotary Club of Monrovia is a proud sponsor of two existing clubs, the Rotary Club of Harper, Maryland County and the Rotary Club of Sinkor, Montserrado County.
