Senate to probe crusade stampede

By Ethel A Tweh

The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has voted unanimously to set up a nine-member committee styled “the Senate Committee of Inquiry” to investigate recent violent incidents carried out in Duala and New Kru Town, Bushrod Island.

The Senate’s decision came about when Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon stressed the alarming security threats lingering in the Country, as he mentioned the recent stampede that took the lives of 31 people at a crusade in New Kru Town, which was organized by a Pentecostal prelate Apostle Abraham Kromah.

The president of the Liberian Senate and Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor set up a committee to probe the incident.

Chaired by Lofa County Senator Stephen J.H. Zargo, members of the committee are: Senators Varney Sherman, Abraham Darius Dillon, Conmany B. Wesseh, Augustine Chea, Numene Bartekwa, Prince Moye, Saah Joseph and Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence.

Meanwhile, the Senate mandates the committee to involve all relevant actors during its investigation and report findings within a month.

On January 19, 2022 worshippers returning from a Church crusade at the D. Twe High School sports stadium in New Kru Town were attacked by criminals, which led to a stampede and death of 31 persons, including women and children.

The gangs made away with valuables, using machetes and other deadly weapons against worshippers.https://thenewdawnliberia.com/crusade-death-toll-hits-31/ Editing by Jonathan Browne
