Sex Worker Found Dead

A young woman, 25, believed to be high-class “sex worker” has been found dead butt-naked in the 12th Street Community in Sinkor. The discovery was made Thursday morning by community residents, but the police have made no arrest.

The cause of death is yet to be established, as the deceased body has been deposited at the JFK Memorial Hospital in Monrovia.

Old-lady, as she is popularly known by residents of both 12th Street and Wroto Town Communities, was found dead Thursday, 10 March without clothing.

She was described as a “serious and popular prostitute” who has been working along with others in the business for long time around the Samoa bar at the Airfield Junction, Exodus on Gurley Street, New Creation on Carey Street  and  other popular entertainment centers in Monrovia and its environs.

Eyewitnesses are quoted as saying that sex workers at these centers are frequently seen vigorously hunting for both old and new sex customers.

“There, these females had sex in vehicles and surrounding areas at these centers for cash, which enable them under-write home costs, including support for their families and education,” one eyewitness told the New Dawn.

Liberia is reported to have one of the with difficulties in educating a child. “Young girls and women here sell their bodies as commodity to make ends meet, including food, as well as clothing, among others.

Prostitution in Monrovia and other big cities in other parts of the country, with more than half of the young girls from fourteen years engaged in selling sex.

Old-lady, according to some residents of 12th Street, lived in the Wroto Town Community on Airfield Road, was a mother of 2 children, 10 and 8.  Most colleagues of the late Old Lady provided scanty narration of what led to her death.

She’s reported to have left her home on Wednesday night on a motorcycle for Central Monrovia, mainly Carey Street on her usual trade. They said since she departed them on Wednesday night at Samoa Bar, there was no news until Thursday morning when she was discovered dead.

Meanwhile, Old-lady’s death has created panic among prostitutes here, who operate within the same areas.  They said they have learned their lesson to extent that sleeping with them would either be in the Motel or Hotel where security is guaranteed.
