Shameful to access southeast through Ivory Coast

-Cummings

Mr. Alexander B. Cummings has expressed regret with shame that Liberia after 176 years, the Monrovia- Harper highway remains disastrous and impassable year after year, requiring citizens to pass through the Ivory Coast in order to safely access the southeast.

Cummings, Standard Bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), returned to Monrovia over the weekend, after a week-long visit to consult with citizens in Maryland, Rivergee, and Grand Kru Counties.

Cummings decried the nonchalant attitude of Liberian Government authorities, knowing that the same portions of the road are often disastrous and impassable, yet the Weah government cares less to ensure durable repair works to ease traveling.

The CPP Standard Bearer made the observation when he addressed journalists in rural Liberia on Thursday, June 15.

Cummings who hails from Maryland County, assured citizens and his kinsmen that road connectivity and reconstruction in the hinterland including the Monrovia-Harper highway, will be top priority of his administration when elected President, come October 10.

Responding to journalists asking why should Liberians elect him as the next President, Cummings said he is the best qualified and has the experience to revive the ailing Liberian economy.

Cummings said jump-starting the ailing economy is critically urgent to reduce the high unemployment rate, pay Liberian workers decent wages, and support the development of a vibrant private sector with active participation and ownership by Liberians.

“This is my area that I know best, fixing the economy to attract foreign direct investment aimed at creating massive employment opportunities for Liberians, both skilled and unskilled,” Cummings said.

He said while other sectors including education and health will be given due attention, economic revival and job creation are the prerequisites to alleviating the extreme suffering and poverty that has gripped the nation.

The CPP Standard Bearer said Liberians have tested President George Weah and by evidence of the deplorable living conditions and massive suffering, he has failed miserably and made Liberia a laughing stock in the international community.

Cummings expressed confidence that with Counsellor Charlyne Brumskine as Vice Standard Bearer, whom he describes as smart, and a legal luminary, the CPP will restore good governance and institute REAL CHANGE that will improve the living conditions of the vast majority.
