It appears United Nations diplomat, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti is preparing to give incumbent President George Weah the fight for his money drawing the line for a possible southeastern battle.

Madam Nyanti would enter the presidential race with a wealth of international contacts steering in her favor.

At her first Town Hall meeting in the Borough of New Kru Town on Wednesday, May 3, urged women and girls of the Borough and other surrounding communities not to settle for the normal status quo in this election period.

“I’m being very honest with you, the people of this borough should not settle for hunger, inflation, lack of education, among others”, Madam Nyanti, the head and founder of Social Movement 4 Change (SM4C) noted.

Speaking to reporters after the engagement, she said SM4C has been in existence for nine years and its partnership with the borough has been two years.

According to her, SM4C will help Liberia get on the right trajectory by changing mindset and educating community residents to take ownership of development process of the country.

“We want women to use the power they have to seek development, today is about engaging women to work in collaboration.”

Madam Nyanti notes that development isn’t restricted to the President, but a well collective effort that requires uniting and putting aside differences for the growth of the country.

“We can’t accept the way things are now; it’s not the way it should be; we need to change the status quo and that will require teamwork”, she emphasizes.

She encourages young girls to focus on their education, and not be satisfied with small dreams, but the big ones by competing for positive things to bring about change.

“Don’t accept the negative, hunger isn’t your portion, you deserve everything like the kids in the West.”

She notes that being a proud daughter of the borough herself, not much has been shown to the people that she means well, which prompted her visit there.

Speaking on behalf of fellow women of the borough, Madam Georgia King Baryor extols organizers of the engagement and disclosed that the area comprised of 26 communities.

Madam Baryor said women have a great task to perform key among which is to advocate against violence being perpetrated against women and girls within the borough.

She thanked the guest speaker for taking up time to visit the community, saying “We are excited to have you in our community; we are challenged in this district our women need microfinance loans, and assistance.”

Meanwhile, the field officer of the SM4C Garrison Jallah, says the movement as a community project-driven endeavor was established in 2014.

He narrates that development breaker is the parent body and SM4C is a community project that has been engaged with several communities through change agents.

“We get quality people from various communities, people with good character, we select them and train them to become change agents.”

Jallah continues that these agents return to their various communities and educate citizens about their rights and conduct needs assessments in those communities.

He said based on those needs, the movement partners with communities in meeting them.

The one-day stakeholder engagement brought together scores of residents of the borough of Kru town, including the federation of borough women and student groups, among others. Editing by Jonathan Browne
