YCCI Launches Climate Saturday

A non-governmental organization, Youth Climate Change Initiative Liberia, last Friday, July 29, officially launched Climate Saturday on the main Campus of the University of Liberia.

Climate Saturday was launched under the theme Clean Climate, Healthy Lives. Climate Saturday is a platform that identifies key climatic issues that is affecting development especially in Liberia, and the African continent at large.

The platform focuses on issue of climate and the environment, thinking locally and acting globally. According to the Executive Director of the organization, Teddy P. Taylor, their local realities were developed and presented on the table of global action for steps towards mitigating effects of climate change.

He said Climate Saturday stands as a voice and a weekly conversation on climate change, sustainable development, environmental issue and related matters aimed at developing a climate-friendly generation in Liberia and the African continent.

He noted that Climate Saturday strives to keep them up with the up-to-date dynamics nature of Liberia Climate and Environment and the African environment and society at large.

He indicated that Climate Saturday will create policy dialogues, networking and partnerships within the Mano River basin and other African countries, adding that the vision of their platform is to promote matters aimed at building a climate-friendly and smart generation and a sustainable effort in Africa. Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Launcher, the Assistant Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kula V. Fofana, thanked the organization for the first step taken, encouraging them to do more. She said the program was a good step by the organization, also urging them to take to other parts of the country and not only remain in Monrovia.
