The House of Representatives expresses deepest condolences and sympathies to families affected by the tragic incident that occurred at the Unity Party headquarters on Monday night, resulting in the loss of three lives and injury of numerous individuals.
Following the announcement of the winner of the just-ended Presidential Runoff Election on Monday, 20 November by the National Elections Commission, partisans and sympathizers of the Unity Party converged at the party headquarters to celebrate their victory when an unmarked jeep ran into the crowd, wounding scores of persons with three confirmed dead at the JFK Medical Center in Monrovia.
The House of Representatives says it stands united in grief with the victims’ families and prays for the swift recovery of those who sustained injuries.
The House calls upon law enforcement agencies, particularly, the Liberian National Police, to expedite a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the matter, underscoring that it is crucial that the perpetrators behind this reprehensible act are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice swiftly.
“This act of violence has shaken us all, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. We urge the police to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation, leaving no stone unturned to ensure justice is served,” states Robert Haynes, press and public affairs director.
The House emphasizes the importance of national unity during these trying times and urges citizens to remain calm and cooperative with the authorities. Any information that may aid in the investigation should be promptly reported to law enforcement.
It says as representatives of the people, the House is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
“We will closely monitor the progress of the investigation and work collaboratively with law enforcement to bring about a resolution to this tragic incident”, Director Haynes assures. Editing by Jonathan Browne
