House questions LTA over Boakaiā€™s 10,000 training for youth

The House of Representatives has voted to further question the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Board of Commissioners on its Digital Skill Project to train up to 10,000 young people in six months.

The House Committee on Post and Telecommunications will lead the effort to further question the LTA Board about its Digital Skill Project to train up to 10,000 young people in various digital skills in six mouths.

The House of Representativesā€™ decision on Tuesday, 6 February 2024 followed a PowerPoint presentation by Commissioner General Edwina Crump Zackpac.

House is seeking more answers about the empowerment of about 10,000 youths from 15 counties through diverse digital skills training.

During President Joseph Nyumah Boakaiā€™s first State of the Nation address at the Legislature on 29 January 2024, he told lawmakers that his government would empower over 10,000 Liberian youth in digital education during the first six months of his tenure as President.

In her presentation, Commissioner Zackpac said the training will cover a range of essential skills, and Liberians who are trained will gradually become digital citizens because digital transformation is a significant step towards building the nation and making the future brighter.

After her presentation, the House of Representatives agreed that details of the ways and means including recruitment and venue for training among others be discussed in the committee’s room and subsequently conveyed to the August Body next Tuesday.

The LTA’s presentation followed a communication from Maryland County District# 1 Representative P. Mike Jury.

Rep. Jury noted that President Boakai promised to leverage Information Communication Technology- ICT in creating jobs.

He placed emphasis on Liberian youth, saying it is important that LTA gives the peopleā€™s deputies a clear strategy and how inclusive it will be to cover the nation.
